Technical Difficulties at The Pet Project Headquarters

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Due to unforseen technical difficulties, The Pet Project did not receive  Veterinary Care requests or Volunteer inquiries sent between January 5, 2010 and today February 11, 2010 until today.

Now that we have these messages, we are working to respond to each message in order of receipt.  We sincerely apologize for the delay.

The technical issue has been resolved and the contact forms at the following pages are in full operation.

Nearly 4,000 lbs

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

On September 6th, The Pet Project will have been operating officially for 2 months.  Since we started, we have collected and distributed nearly 4,000 lbs of food.  Help us reach that goal by donating this weekend…..Only 300 lbs to go!

These estimates vary by food type and dogs weight, but some rough estimations:  A 35 lb bag of food will feed a large dog for about a month, and a small/medium dog for six weeks or so, a 10 lb bag of cat food will last for about a month and a half.

You just fed a lot of pets.  Pets with owners who don’t have to worry this month about whether or not their furry friends are hungry.  Each time you reduce someone’s suffering, you add to their joy.

Thank you.

Here, kitty, kitty…

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

The Pet Project has had a lot of success reaching out to the dog community.   People who have dogs tend to do things together with other people who have dogs, and those people have friends who have dogs…etc.  It’s been great to get so much feedback from dog lovers and so many generous donations.

That being said, the cats and kittens of the world could use a little food too.  Where, oh where are the crazy cat ladies of America?  Where are the magnanimous Manx lovers?   The sophisticated Siamese owners?  The caring Calico and the thoughtful Tabby folks?

Put the word out, if you can, to all the cat lovers you know.  Don’t make me start hanging out at fabric stores and Star Trek conventions.

Things are really picking up steam

I’d really like to thank everyone that’s been getting the word out about TPP.  People have been contacting me left and right about participating in events, ideas for ways to get more food, and volunteering to help out.  Your generosity is overwhelming and wonderful.  I could have never expected that things would go this well this quickly.

To all of the volunteers….I’m hanging on to your emails because I’m really hoping that one day really soon, I’ll need all the help I can get because there will be so much food to deliever, I won’t know what to do with myself.

As a side note, people from different counties have been contacting me wondering if TPP will make it out their way.  Are any of you living further out that would like to get involved in food/supply collection and donation?

I’m still working on getting a list of veterinarians who will volunteer their time.  The responses have been really positive, but I’d like to have at least 20 or so sign on before I open the flood gates.  If you love your vet, send me their name/email/phone number….whatever you’ve got.

THANK YOU, GENEROUS PEOPLE OF MINNESOTA!

It’s been a big week

Friday, July 24th, 2009

This week has been great.  The website went up (a HUGE thank you to everyone involved), the first vet I talked to agreed to donate services, The Pet Project was invited to do “Beer with your Buddy” in September AND there is a pro bono attorney willing to work with us to file our 501(c)(3) status.  For anyone who doesn’t know or is interested, filing for 501 status makes you a tax exempt entity.   It also means that if accepted, future donations would be tax deductible.  It would also mean that I could start applying for grants.

Things are really coming along and it feels really, really good.  I hope those donations bins start overflowing.
