Just who is Kim Carrier?

During my “day job” as a stylist, I hear a lot of stories from a lot of people.   Recently, I’ve been hearing a lot about hardship and heartbreak and wanted to do something to change that.  When I told the folks at Mezzanine Salon about my idea for The Pet Project, they were supportive.  Really supportive.  In fact, their enthusiasm was so contagious that clients started volunteering their time, giving me email addresses and asking me how they could help.  Within a matter of weeks, the idea became so much bigger than myself that I couldn’t NOT do it.  That is, in part, how this began.

Another great source of inspiration has, of course, been my own pets.  Currently, I live with two dogs, Stella and Rosie.  Before they came into my life, I had the privilege of sharing my home with two cats, Sophie and Maggie.   My relationship with each of them has been unique, intimate and enriching.  They are my best friends and have been just as fundamental to my well being and growth as any family.

Lastly, I don’t think I could have even thought of anything like this if it weren’t for my parents.  From them, I learned that doing the right thing isn’t always the easiest way, but it’s the only way.   They are always the first to give someone a hand and the last to ask for something in return.  They are generous beyond all imagination.   I hope to keep passing that on.

    Hi, Kim,
Hannah Ellis suggested we “meet,” probably because I am also a pet lover (currently have 2 Dachshunds) and am a resourceful person, especially connected among local nonprofits, food shelves, etc..

I’ve visited your Web site and am very impressed with your mission. Please let me know how I can help

    Best,
    Katherine Werner

    Hi Kim,
I’m sure this isn’t the best way to get in touch, but I couldn’t find any other contact info, for Halloween I’d like to go as a bag of dog food, if you could supply me with a few large empty bags of dog food, I could supply you with a donation to help replace those empty bags with brand new full bags of dogfood.
    Andrew

I don’t think my message got through. Trying again. I love the ST article as well. Read it several times yesterday when I saw it on the extra paper we have here at work. I’m into horses and I know that horse owners are having problems as well. They sometimes turn their animals lose or leave them to starve. Well anyways I was wondering if clinics would help out with horses as well if the word got around and donations started coming in. Comments please

      Marian,
I just sent you an email. I didn’t see your first post either….but I see it now.

It would be great if The Pet Project could help address this issue….it’s a big one.
Help us out horse lovers! Tell us more about how the food could be distributed. (The food shelf model might not be enough outreach for this)

Kim: Great article in the Strib today. The fiscal agent posibility will be very helpful to you to raise funds. I hope the Hallie Q. Brown enter will follow through with you. I’ll send a donation today in memory of my aunt, Dodo Paul, who loved cats (and dogs) and painted hundreds of pet portraits over her lifetime. She would be very happy to hear of your work. Best wishes.

    Hey, Kim!!!
Saw the article about your project in the MSP paper this AM!! Yeah for what you’re doing for those “special” people in our lives!
I work at a vet clinic in Stillwater, MN and wonder if you would consider branching out to this area??? My employment there followed a long and curious route including a bout with unemployment and my love of critters so your article really struck a chord!
My friends are all dog, cat, etc lovers/owners and of course I have the connection with the clinic here. Let me know what you think.
Thanks for what you’re doing…it’s very special and admirable!!
    Anne

      Anne,
Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. If we can get the volunteers, we can get to Stillwater. Who wants to help? Send me an email! thepetprojectmn@gmail.com

Thanks for getting this information out. i was looking for a place to make a donation in honor of our beloved dog Tahoe who we obtained as a rescue and enjoyed for 11 years. He kindly let us know in June that he was tired and ready to leave us. He tought our family unconditional love, get your butt out and walk in the park, smell the “roses” along the way, and hop in the car whenever you can.

  14. Brian says:

because of that funny smell, scott. Love you kim

  15. Laura Leonard says:

Hi-love what you are doing. Can you use food that is expired? What other restrictions do you have. I volunteer for a rescue that sometimes gets extra food. Thanks for your efforts. You may keep a dog from coming into our rescue. Laura

  16. Hi Kim!

My church, Northeast Community Lutheran Church does two low-cost vaccine clinics for dogs and cats every year. We also have dog and cat food in our Little Kitchen Food Shelf.

We’d love to talk to you about partnering, or how we can support each other’s good work.

    You Rock, Sister!
